The outings just keep getting better for Jair Jurrjens. This time he carried a no hitter through 5 1/3 innings with the only baserunner coming on a 3rd inning walk. Delving into Enhanced Gameday data, this is how he did it:

Pitch Type

Jurrjens threw 90 innings in his 5 plus innings of work. He threw a higher percentage of fastballs (70%) than in his last start against the Rangers (60%).

Pitch Ball	Strike	InPlay	Total
change 8	7	1	16
curve 6	4	1	11
fastball	17	36	10	63
Total 31	47	12	90

Jurrjens controlled his change up better than his last time out, throwing it for strikes half of the time. He actually threw fewer curve balls this time out, not just as a percentage but overall. He became very fastball heavy at the end of his outing with 10 of his last 12 pitches being heaters.

His fastball was clocked from 88.2 mph to 94.5 mph with a median speed of 91.9.

The curve ball came in 77.9 mph to 81.3 mph with a median velocity of 79 mph.

The change up was 81.3 mph to 85.5 mph. And honestly, I’m not sure whether the fastest change ups were slow fastballs or fast change’s.

Missing Bats

Pitch Called	Foul	FoulTip	Swing	Total
change 3	2	1	1	7
curve 1	1	1	1	4
fastball	16	17 3	36
Total 20	20	2	5	47

Jurrjens picked up six strikeouts, but only induced 5 swings and misses and a couple of foul tips. The Twins were finding ways to make contact, but like the Rangers and Indians they weren’t having a lot of success when they did.

What gets put in play?

Pitch Hit	FO	GO	LO	PO	Total
change 1 1
curve 1 1
fastball	2	3	1	1	3	10
Total 2	4	1	2	3	12

Jurrjens only induced on ground ball the whole game, making the infield defense kind of irrelevant. Most balls were in the air, and the only 2 hits and 1 of the 2 line drives came off the fastball.

Sustaining

As was the case in his last outing, Jurrjens had no trouble maintaining his fastball velocity throughout the game, and got a little stronger at the end with some of his fastest pitches coming in his last inning of work.

Jair Jurrjens no hit bid - fastball velocity
