Jurrjens season ends on disappointing note

In Jurrjens last start of the year he surrendered 4 first inning runs to the Minnesota Twins as he struggled to find the strike zone.
He walked 3, allowed 3 hits, and tossed a very wild pitch in a tumultuous first inning. In all Jurrjens threw 41 pitches in that first inning. And you wouldn’t know it by the results, but he was routinely getting ahead of hitters. He threw first pitch strikes to 7 of the 9 batters he saw that inning. What’s more is that he was ahead of 6 of the 9 hitters with either a 1-2 or 0-2 count, but he couldn’t put anyone away.
To Jurrjens credit he did rebound in the 2nd and 3rd innings and made it through those frames unscathed on only 22 pitches. At that point his night was done as the rains came down.
With the season over, and Jair not pitching in the AFL, there won’t be a whole lot of news to cover. I do plan to work more with enhanced gameday data over the winter, including breaking down the starts I haven’t done yet. And I will take a look back at Jurrjens full season.
